AnalystPrep FRM® Review: The Before-You-Buy Guide

Updated January 20, 2026

The pass rates for FRM® Part I and FRM® Part II are roughly the same: roughly 50% at the time of publishing. That means only half of the candidates pass, and that number decreases if it’s your first attempt.

Needless to say, picking the right exam review course is essential, and AnalystPrep is one of the most popular options out there.

As a professional course reviewer, I studied AnalystPrep’s FRM® courses at length, from video lessons to practice questions. Here’s the lowdown on whether AnalystPrep can help you master tricky risk management concepts and find exam success, or if a different provider is a smarter choice for your needs.

Is AnalystPrep Your FRM® Prep Pick?

  • If you’re a visual learner, AnalystPrep’s video lectures—led by Professor Forjan—will help make difficult topics easier to retain.
  • If you’re on a budget, AnalystPrep’s pricing offers strong value compared to other premium FRM® providers.
  • If you like studying on your own schedule, the Unlimited Package’s lifetime access makes it easy to learn at your own pace.
  • If you thrive under expert support, the ask-a-tutor feature provides personalized support whenever you get stuck.
  • If you’re unsure whether it’s the right fit, the no-refund policy may be a drawback—even with access to free sample materials.

AnalystPrep FRM® Review 101

AnalystPrep

AnalystPrep is one of the most budget-friendly FRM® review courses available, especially when discounts and sales are considered. But a lot of the time, “cheaper” translates to “worse.” I’m pleased to report that I don’t think that’s the case with AnalystPrep—in fact, I think they’re one of the best FRM® prep providers. However, there are a few negatives to scrutinize before heading to the checkout page.

With over 4,000 practice questions, 93+ hours of video lessons, and exam-quality practice materials, AnalystPrep has a lot to offer. The Unlimited Package is the best example of this, with unlimited ask-a-tutor questions and lifetime access to course materials. In my experience, you can look forward to a clean interface, a structured study plan, and resources that get the job done (in a way you’ll actually understand).

Ready for the good, the bad, and the ugly? Let’s take a closer look at the AnalystPrep FRM® pros and cons.

Pros

  • With discounts, AnalystPrep is one of the most affordable options for FRM® exam review
  • AnalystPrep’s study notes are clear, succinct, and easy to read (and remember on exam day!)
  • Unlimited tutoring questions can be a huge help for students who benefit from personalized aid
  • Lifetime access means no added time anxiety leading up to the big day
  • AnalystPrep’s mock exams and practice tests are high-quality, true to the actual exam

Cons

  • Some users reported needing supplemental materials like YouTube videos to pass
  • AnalystPrep’s courses have a strict no-refund policy, so once you buy, you’re locked in

AnalystPrep’s FRM® Course Package Options

Unlimited Package

The Unlimited Package is practically the same as the Learn + Practice Package. However, where the latter has access length of 12 months and just five ask-a-tutor questions, the Unlimited Package offers unlimited access and questions for a slightly increased price.

➡️ If personalized support and help tackling complex concepts help you thrive, this package is for you.

Learn + Practice Package

The Learn + Practice Package includes everything in the Practice Package (hence the + Practice Package) and most of what’s in the Unlimited Package; however, the Learn + Practice Package provides five ask-a-tutor questions and a 12-month access period, where the Unlimited gives—you guessed it—unlimited questions and access.

➡️ If you want video lessons and study notes but don’t need Q&A assistance, choose this bundle.

Practice Package

Finally, the Practice Package will be the kindest to your wallet, but may not have the support and materials you need to succeed. You’ll still get five ask-a-tutor questions and access for a year, but you’ll miss out on over 93 hours of video lectures and online, printable study notes. This lack affects a lot of FRM® candidates, considering 65% of the population are visual learners.

➡️ If you’re on a strict budget and learn best from doing, you should consider this option.

AnalystPrep FRM® Course Feature Breakdown

You’ve made it this far. Now, it’s time to dive deeper into the specifics of what AnalystPrep has to offer, and what the experience looked like for me. That way, you can “try on” AP’s vibe and see whether it’d be a good fit.

Study Materials and Structure

AnalystPrep FRM dashboard

Let’s revisit the basics: AnalystPrep is a self-led prep course with a guided lesson plan you can follow at your own pace. It’s a simple, straightforward cycle: read the books, watch the video lessons, and review that section’s share of the 4,000 practice questions to ensure you’ve mastered the material before moving on.

I compared the practice questions to those found on the actual exam, and for the most part, you’re getting a great interpretation. There are a few questions every now and then that felt a little extraneous, and I didn’t think they’d show up on the FRM® exam, but it’s probably better to be overprepared—just in case. Otherwise, the materials were clean, easy to read, and professional, which is exactly what you’d expect from a company with a 4.7-star Trustpilot rating.

“The question bank is large and a valuable resource for exam preparation. Questions can be flagged to be revisited / repeated later to enabling strengthening of weak areas. In addition to the available mock examinations, the question bank can be selecting by number of questions and topics enabling further ‘mock’ style examinations to be completed.”

Video Lessons with Professor James Forjan

AnalystPrep FRM videos

Professor James Forjan, the lead lecturer for AnalystPrep’s FRM® and CFA® exam review video lessons, is a joy to listen to. I mean this in the most complimentary way possible: he has some of the most purely concentrated dad energy I’ve ever seen. My supporting points:

  • Seems sincerely kind and compassionate regarding students
  • Cracks dad jokes and goofy puns
  • Tells great stories
  • Wants to gently push you to success

His students agree, rating him a 4.4 out of 5 on Rate My Professors.

He doesn’t just read off the slide. Though there’s obviously some of that, he weaves real-world examples, stories, and analogies into the fold to make the learning process more accessible, engaging, and easier to remember when you need it. The classes can get long, sometimes an hour or more, but it still isn’t a huge amount of time where you’ll be unable to concentrate until the end. I really enjoyed getting to know a little bit more about FRM® through Professor Forjan’s video lectures, and if you’re a visual learner, this could be a great match for you.

“Jim’s videos are so easy to watch and understand, he explains his concepts clearly and concisely without stuffing the video with technical jargons. After I finish all the videos and before I attempt the sample questions, I didn’t know what to expect, but when I look at the questions, I was like ‘yes, Jim talked about this idea, and that I should think about this problem this way….’”

Value, Refunds, and Guarantees

In the grand scheme of things, AnalystPrep has a lot of value as the most reasonably priced top FRM® exam review provider. You’re getting a similar number of well-crafted materials as you would with the competition, but you’re paying much less for a grade-A experience. Further, you get the major value-add of unlimited access and tutoring questions answered in the Ultimate Package.

That being said, one of AnalystPrep’s biggest downfalls is its strict “no refunds for any reason” policy. Once you’ve purchased the course, it’s game over (do not pass go, do not collect $200). You’re stuck with it. And while I understand the intention behind this for a company built on digital products, it can be frustrating if you only went through the first chapter and realized it wasn’t the right fit. Luckily, they offer free materials directly from the course, so you can see if the teaching style matches the way you absorb knowledge.

“Overall a good investment. The materials are detailed and the website is well-designed with an affordable price range. Recently passed my FRM Level I on November 2024, it was worth it!”

Ask-a-Tutor Questions

Finally, let’s touch on one of my favorite AnalystPrep features: ask-a-tutor questions. Here’s a quick reminder of how many questions you get, depending on the package you purchase:

  • Practice Package: 5 Questions
  • Learn + Practice Package: 5 Questions
  • Ultimate Package: Unlimited Questions

Naturally, as a course reviewer who’s passed the CPA exams, I know quite a bit of finance content, and I’m not actually studying for the FRM® exam. Nevertheless, I looked up some commonly asked FRM® questions and added a few of my own that were downright silly, just to see if they’d be patient with me.

You can either submit your questions and wait or participate in live chat, and in both examples, responses were very fast. The tutors went above and beyond to help me understand the content, asking if I felt confident and if I had any other questions at the end of our time together. If you need a topic broken down further because you didn’t fully understand it when you first read or listened, Ask-a-Tutor is a great benefit worth taking advantage of.

AnalystPrep vs. The Competition

The best way to decide if AnalystPrep is right for you? Compare them to your other options. Here are the main conflicting points in the courses so you can make the right choice.

AnalystPrep vs. Kaplan Schweser FRM®

The most obvious comparison here is that Kaplan Schweser is much more expensive than AnalystPrep. The cost for a single FRM® part’s course with Kaplan can be more than AnalystPrep’s Ultimate Package. However, that added cost does provide some pretty great perks, like their 7+ hour-long final review class and Schweser’s Secret Sauce® key concept summary booklet. So, the right choice really depends on you.

🆚 Want to spend 50% less on your prep, without losing quality? Choose AnalystPrep.

🆚 Have the budget and want additional study tools? Choose Kaplan Schweser.

AnalystPrep vs. Bionic Turtle FRM®

If you struggle with math and quantitative analysis, Bionic Turtle is known for being an excellent pick, great for helping those topics finally “click.” Further, Bionic Turtle features live online review sessions, which fit traditional learners well. However, one of BT customers’ biggest complaints is that they feel the questions aren’t representative of what you’ll find on the real exam, which isn’t the case for AnalystPrep. Further, the questions are significantly more difficult. From my research on student experiences, there was a “rage quit” effect where the questions were so tough, they felt totally demotivated and defeated.

🆚 Want confidence in the accuracy and quality of your practice questions? Choose AnalystPrep.

🆚 Want live classes to explain challenging math and quant sections? Choose Bionic Turtle.

Still not sure? Compare AnalystPrep with the best FRM® exam prep courses here.

Final Verdict

Aspiring risk professionals can find a multitude of helpful resources in AnalystPrep’s FRM® courses, and from my research and personal experience, I believe they can help most candidates pass the FRM® exams. Don’t take the cheap price tag as a sign of poor quality, because AP is one of the best options out there, low price or otherwise.

The best fit? Students on a budget who value video content and quality practice materials. If that sounds like you, learn more about AnalystPrep FRM® right below.
