Bob’s Discount Furniture to open Elk Grove store in April, more area locations set for May

Bob’s Discount Furniture will open its new Elk Grove location in April, one in a string of Sacramento-area locations set to debut in the coming months.

The new Elk Grove store opens April 25 at a familiar spot in the city’s Laguna Crossroads retail center at Laguna Boulevard and Bruceville Road in the former home of shoppers’ favorite Stein Mart.

Bob’s opens its new Roseville location May 16, and the doors open at the chain’s new Folsom location one week later on May 23.

“We’re looking to earn the right of Sacramento customers,” Kevin Parker, west coast vice president of the Connecticut-based furniture chain, said in an interview.

Crews have begun clearing out space for the new 32,369 square-foot Elk Grove showroom and Parker said the company expects to unload inventory at the new space in four to six weeks. Bob’s also plans to have hiring events for employees and store managers as the store closes in on the April opening date.

Bob’s stores employ 30 to 50 people per location plus drivers, Parker said.

Bob’s Discount Furniture has 150 stores in 24 states, posting more than $2 billion in annual sales, but is still relatively new to California.

The retailer opened its first five stores in Southern California in 2018, eventually expanding its California footprint farther north.

Today, Bob’s has stores in 22 California locations, with plans to open stores in Stockton and Modesto.

“We’ve been received well in California and we’re looking at what we’ve built this off of,” Parker said. “No gimmicks. Everyone gets the same deal.”

Bob’s entry into Elk Grove had been teased for nearly a year. The only indication that the nation’s 10th largest furniture chain was coming to town was a sign behind glass at the empty storefront posted by property manager Donohue Schriber.

“We can only assume Elk Grove was excited to see us,” Parker said with a laugh. “Elk Grove has been great.”
