Pedestrian killed in overnight crash on Sheldon Road in Elk Grove, police say

Pedestrian fatality

Police in Elk Grove are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian Thursday night, authorities said.

The crash happened on Sheldon Road between Waterman and Bradshaw roads, shortly after 9:20 p.m., the Elk Grove Police Department said in a news release, when a 60-year-old Sacramento woman was hit by a Lexus heading eastbound on Sheldon.

The woman was walking in the roadway when she was struck, according to the news release. The Police Department in a Facebook comment added that the incident “didn’t happen at or near an intersection.”

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, and detectives do not believe speed, drugs or alcohol played a role in the fatal crash, according to the news release.

The victim’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
