Specialty waffle-and-ice cream shop The Dolly Llama has reopened its new Elk Grove location, two weeks after city officials temporarily closed the dessert spot on safety concerns days after its late-July opening.

The eatery in the Raley’s Center of Elk Grove shopping center (4810 Elk Grove Blvd., Suite 140) reopened Friday, representatives said.

The Dolly Llama first opened its site July 29. It’s the growing Los Angeles-based chain’s first Northern California location and part of a planned expansion into the Sacramento area.

Dolly Llama held its grand opening before securing the necessary final inspections and approvals from fire, building and Sacramento County health officials, Elk Grove officials said.

Elk Grove officials closed down the specialty sweets spot days later, on Aug. 1, citing a lack of fire sprinklers and a drop ceiling over the kitchen area.

Workers were busy days later fitting the sprinkler system and installing a drop ceiling to receive the final approvals needed to reopen.

Another Dolly Llama ice cream shop is planned for the Delta Shores shopping center in south Sacramento. The Dolly Llama has sites in Las Vegas, Florida and Dallas in addition to greater Los Angeles.
