Taking home the Best R&B Album award, she had to outdo Summer Walker’s “Clear 2: Soft Life EP,” Emily King’s “Special Occasion,” Coco Jones’ “What I Didn’t Tell You (Deluxe),” and Babyface’s “Girls Night Out.”

“I just want to say to everybody who has a dream, I want you to look at this as an example,” Monet said during her Grammy acceptance speech. “Thank you, God.”

Monet grew up in south Sacramento and Elk Grove. She always had a passion for performing arts, which led her to attend Sheldon High School of the Elk Grove Unified School District.

She wanted to go there because of the school’s performing arts program.

“It just was much more appealing to me because I’ve always known that I wanted to be on stage and entertaining and having fun being creative,” Monet said in a 2022 interview with The Sacramento Bee regarding her time at Sheldon High School. “They have great education there but also exercise the creative side of my brain as well. I love it.”

Monet is expected to perform at Coachella in April.
