A new $29 million gym, community center is opening in Elk Grove. Here’s when
A new $29 million, 59,000-square-foot recreation and fitness center in Elk Grove is finally ready to accept members as the new facility is set to open after two years of anticipation.
The CORE Recreation Center admitted members for the first time during a soft opening last week, according to Cosumnes Community Services District spokesperson Jenna Brinkman. The event was limited to those who had already enrolled.
According to the Cosumnes CSD website, a grand opening is scheduled for 9 a.m. July 26, featuring a ribbon-cutting, facility tours, live DJ music, open play areas and giveaways.
Located at 5542 Bellaterra Drive, next to Morse Community Park in Elk Grove, the CORE center spans approximately four acres and introduces new amenities distinct from the city’s original community center, the Barbara Morse Wackford Community & Aquatic Complex on Bruceville Road.
“CORE is a next-generation fitness and recreation center that goes beyond what’s offered at traditional community centers like the Wackford Complex,” Brinkman said. “CORE offers a modern fitness experience with boutique studios, sports courts, an indoor track, and indoor/outdoor training areas under one roof.”
Brinkman said the facility is “designed for active families, casual users, and fitness enthusiasts” and promotes a community-focused approach to health and wellness.
What is included inside the new fitness venue?
The facility offers high-end amenities, including boutique-style classes, indoor and outdoor fitness zones, and full-size courts. A complete list of amenities include:
▪ Large fitness floor: cardio, free weights, functional zones
▪ Semi-private workout areas
▪ Stretch/warm-up zones
▪ Three boutique studios
▪ Two full gyms with courts for basketball, volleyball, and pickleball
▪ Indoor jogging/walking track
▪ Outdoor functional fitness turf, equipment, bouldering and slackline
▪ Outdoor fitness deck and amphitheater
▪ Locker rooms with private shower/changing spaces
▪ COREkids program for ages 4 to 12 to play and exercise in a supervised space
Is it free to Elk Grove or Sacramento residents?
CORE is not free for residents, however Brinkman said memberships are “reasonably priced with flexible options for individuals and their households”.
Monthly memberships start at $59 for the first year, increasing to $69 after 12 months. Enrollment costs $1. A $39 enhancement fee is billed 60 days after enrollment, and a $5 processing fee applies to credit card payments.
Teen memberships (ages 13-17) cost $49 per month with a similar enhancement fee and enrollment conditions. Youth memberships (ages 4-12) are available at $29 per month. Parents must sign registration agreements for minors.
Brinkman said they also “offer day and week passes for those wanting to try it out or who don’t need a monthly plan”.
“CORE aims to be inclusive, accessible, and a lasting investment in the community’s health and wellness,” she said.
