Elk Grove set to add more trails in the city. Here’s where and what it’ll cost

Elk Grove news

Construction is set to begin this summer on new trails in Elk Grove.

The Laguna Creek Trail was expected to be extended from Mannington Street near Galloway Way to Bruceville Road at Big Horn Boulevard. The one mile of two additional segments was expected to connect with the existing trail near Lewis Stein Road and include multiple access points.

In addition to the trail extension, Bruceville Road was set to be widened to add a new pedestrian path, connecting with an existing sidewalk south of Sheldon Road to Big Horn Boulevard. A new right-turn lane was also planned to help reduce traffic congestion.

“These improvements will make it easier to reach nearby parks, schools, shopping areas, and transit, creating safer and more connected ways to get around Elk Grove,” a post from the city reads.

The updates were part of the Laguna Creek Inter-Regional Trail Master Plan, created by the city in collaboration with the city of Sacramento and Sacramento County and funded by Caltrans, to improve connectivity in the region for bicyclists and pedestrians.

Construction was estimated to cost $2.5 million and was expected to be completed in 2027, city spokesperson Kristyn Nelson said.
