Former Elk Grove youth sports league president arrested on embezzlement charges
The former president and treasurer of an Elk Grove youth sports league was arrested this month for allegedly embezzling over $100,000 from the organization, police said.
Kristina Vazquez, 41, allegedly embezzled the money from the Elk Grove Junior Thundering Herd Youth Football and Cheer Program over the six years she served on its board, according to an Elk Grove Police Department news release.
“According to detectives, Vazquez used funds from the youth football account to pay for mortgage payments, car payments, plane tickets, hotels, Disneyland tickets, and other personal expenses,” the release said.
The two-year investigation included over 20 search warrants and record inquiry requests, according to the release. Vazquez was arrested May 14 after detectives obtained a warrant for her arrest, and she was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.
Vazquez is charged with six counts of felony embezzlement and six counts of grand theft, according to a spokesperson for the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.
According to court records, Vazquez was arraigned May 18. She is scheduled to return to court June 24.
