Rocklin Junior Thunder football discovers ‘financial discrepancies,’ alerts law enforcement
The board of directors for Rocklin Junior Thunder said an internal investigation found discrepancies in financial records and misappropriation of funds, and that the concerns have been forwarded to law enforcement, according to an email sent to parents Thursday.
The board of the youth football organization also removed Melissa Roberts from her position as president Wednesday, according to the email. She had been suspended indefinitely for alleged ethics and bylaws violations after a Sunday meeting, according to an earlier email to parents.
“The matter has since been referred to local law enforcement for further investigation,” Thursday’s email said in part.
Board members with Rocklin Junior Thunder and officials with the Rocklin Police Department did not immediately respond to The Bee’s requests for further comment. Roberts could not be reached for comment.
Roberts had been with the organization since at least 2015, when she served as treasurer.
Rocklin Junior Thunder board members named Graham McDaniel acting interim president.
A previous president of Rocklin Junior Thunder, Stephanie Ann Abercrombie, was arrested in January 2014 for embezzlement of $20,000 in funds entrusted to the organization. Abercrombie in 2016 was convicted of felony grand theft under false pretenses and sentenced to 10 months of probation on top of 14 months time served in county jail, court records show.
