Roseville man, 24, killed in Monday night crash on Highway 65, CHP says

A Roseville man died in a three-vehicle crash Monday night on Highway 65, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 10:15 p.m. a few miles north of Lincoln near Sheridan, where a pickup truck reportedly ran a red light before colliding with two vehicles and then a pole, according to a news release from the CHP Auburn office.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The victim was a 24-year-old Roseville man, the CHP said, but his identity has not yet been released by the Placer County Coroner’s Office.

Two occupants of one of another involved vehicle, a 2006 Jeep, were transported to a hospital with injuries described as minor. Two others in the third vehicle, a 2017 Ford, also suffered minor injuries but refused medical aid.

Both the Ford and the Jeep were making left turns from southbound Highway 65 onto westbound Riosa Road just before the crash, using the two turn lanes on a green light, the CHP collision report said based on those parties’ witness statements.

The Chevrolet pickup truck, heading northbound on the highway, failed to stop at a red light and struck both vehicles at an unknown speed before it “careened out of control and came to rest after striking a traffic light pole,” the news release said.

The crash remains under investigation, and it is unknown whether the Chevy driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. All involved parties were wearing seat belts, according to CHP’s collision report.
