Two 18-year-olds killed as speeding car hits trees, splits into three pieces

Two men were killed after a vehicle struck a tree early Tuesday morning in the Antelope area, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The two victims, both 18 years old, were fatally ejected from the vehicle, according to CHP North Sacramento spokesman Officer Greg Zumstein.

The incident happened around 1 a.m. on Elverta Road near Northam Drive, according to a CHP news release.

The victims’ vehicle, a Pontiac sedan, ran off the roadway at an unknown but very high rate of speed, colliding with a tree on the north side of the roadway.

The car was traveling so fast it spun and struck a second tree “before subsequently separating into three pieces” as both men were ejected, the news release said. Both were pronounced dead at the scene by fire personnel.

The CHP identified the driver as Bradley Patrick Johnson of Antelope. The deceased passenger’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.

Zumstein said speed was a “definite factor” in the collision. The CHP news release said, based on witness statements, alcohol was a factor in the collision.

The crash remains under investigation.
