More than 1,000 people have contributed to a crowdfunding campaign that has raised tens of thousands of dollars for the surviving victim in the recent series of Davis stabbings, who was seriously injured after being stabbed May 1 inside her tent at a homeless encampment.

Kimberlee Guillory, 64, continues to recover at a hospital after undergoing surgery for multiple stab wounds.

Police say Guillory was stabbed through her tent at Second and L streets in Davis late Monday night, May 1, in the third and final attack during a series of stabbings that killed 50-year-old community figure David Henry Breaux and 20-year-old UC Davis student Karim Abou Najm, on April 27 and April 29, respectively.

Authorities arrested 21-year-old Carlos Reales Dominguez, a former UC Davis student, in connection with the three stabbings. Prosecutors charged him with attempted murder in connection with Guillory’s stabbing, and murder in the deaths of Breaux and Abou Najm.

A verified GoFundMe campaign for Guillory launched late last week had raised $43,000 as of Monday morning across more than 1,100 donations. The page was established to support her medical expenses and assist her in finding permanent housing.

Guillory faces a “long and difficult” road to recovery, organizer Rose Hall wrote. One of the stabs punctured her kidney.

According to Hall, Guillory was experiencing homelessness after caring for her daughter, who recently died of pancreatic cancer at age 33.

Guillory was staying at a Davis encampment, near Second and L streets, while waiting for approval and availability at low-incoming housing. Hall wrote that Guillory had been unable to stay at a local homeless shelter because she has a dog.

“Medical bills and expenses are likely to pile up, and we are hoping to raise funds to help ease her financial burden and allow her to focus on her recovery, as well as assist with helping her pay for a permanent residence,” Hall wrote.
