Sacramento weekend guide: Shop, eat, win prizes. And a concert at the Golden 1 Center
At this point, you know a weekend guide is coming just in time for you to finally think about something other than work (unless you are the not-all-hero-wear-capes type of person that works during the weekend).
For those of us who are able to unplug, a weekend in Sacramento might mean catching some of the several events in the community.
So impress your family and friends with countless possibilities, including a cafe opening in Old Sacramento, a Halloween-themed market, a free art show at the Brazilian Center and more.
Below are several events planned in the Sacramento area the weekend of Oct. 22-24:
Friday
March for Stolen Lives and Stolen Futures
100 Waterfront Place, West Sacramento
In honor of the Black, Indigenous, people of color that lost their lives to police violence, environmental racism and the climate crisis, march from the California State Teachers’ Retirement System headquarters to the state capitol. The march, which kicks off at 11 a.m., is sponsored by the 10/22 Action Coalition.
Masks are encouraged.

Visit a cafe opening
The Atrium, 1020 Front St., Sacramento
Support Sustainable Art Cafe’s opening, an eco-friendly cafe in Old Sacramento. Play the baby grand piano or mingle at the up-cycled garden tables — where art, not food is served.
You’ll find local art, wallets made out of inner tubes, re-usable water balloons, Sacramento-made fashion, jewelry and more. The opening is from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Saturday
Listen to an opera singer at the Golden 1 Center
Golden 1 Center at 500 David J Stern Walk
Listen to renowned Italian singer Andrea Bocelli at the Golden 1 Center in downtown Sacramento. Attendees will need to show proof of vaccination or proof of a negative COVID-19 test result no older than 48 hours to enter the venue.

Enjoy a Spooky-themed market
912 Enterprise Drive, Sacramento
Get into the spirit of Halloween at the fifth installment of The Fly Market in Sacramento with DJs mixing music all day. The spooky-themed event is scheduled to have more than 75 vendors and candy stations, including vintage clothes, rare sneakers, trendy clothes, local brands, arts and crafts.
The kid-friendly event iis from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a costume contest and those dressed in costumes will receive candy. Pets are allowed

Visit a free Sacramento exhibition
Brazilian Center, 2420 N St., No. 180, Sacramento
Art Collab presents “A Breath of Fresh Art: Halloween Edition” at the Brazilian Center from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Purchase artists’ work, support pop-up shops and enjoy live performances.
Food will also be available for purchase at the Brazilian Center.

Take a stroll through a pop-up shop
The Creative Space, 1525 U Street, Sacramento
Come out to the Spooky Season pop-up curated by the Creative Space in Sacramento. Knit beanies, pumpkins, soup dumplings, candles and more will be available for purchase.
The shop opens from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Face masks are required for indoor entry.

Celebrate Filipino American History Month at a pop-up event
The Creative Space, 1525 U Street, Sacramento
In honor of Filipino American History Month, Sacramento’s Creative Space will host an Ube All Day Pop-Up with all Filipino American makers. Support a vendor and purchase stickers, candles, jewelry and other Filipino-centered art.
A variety of food will also be available including cookies, pandesal, lumpia and more. The pop-up iis from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Take the family to a Halloween festival
4242 Florin Road, Sacramento
Bring the entire family to the Southgate Plaza’s Halloween Festival to enjoy free games, activities and a chance to prizes and gift cards from Southgate Plaza. The festival is scheduled to have a live DJ, face painting, bounce houses, games and more.
Pre-registration is required to enter the raffle. The festival, which will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, will be in the parking lot behind Cricket Wireless and the Party Store at the Southgate Plaza.
