Sacramento weekend guide: Capitol Beer Fest, local art, Donut Dash, or make your own cheese

In just a blink of an eye, March is here. This means spring is coming, St. Patrick’s Day is around the corner and more sunlight will be creeping in with daylight saving time starting later in just a couple weeks.

But before we get into spring festivities, let’s take in the last bits of the winter season. This weekend’s forecast includes highs in the 60s and lows around 34 degrees with some clouds Friday and Saturday. There’s also a chance of rain — mostly on Friday with 55% and about 25% on Saturday and Sunday.

If you want to go out and enjoy the winter breeze, Sacramento has some events for the first weekend of March.

Friday

Explore Latinx clay art at the First Friday Artwalk

Sacramento’s R Street Corridor is hosting its First Friday Artwalk and Explore Arte will be featuring local ceramic artists, such as Daniel Trejo, Domingo Castro and Freddy Santana. This Friday is the opening reception.

Guests can enjoy live music, Argentinian empanadas and ceramics, including traditional Mucawa bowls that were shipped from Ecuador for this exhibit.

You can register for free on Eventbrite.

Saturday

Taste some IPAs, ales or seltzers at the Capitol Beer Fest

Attendees must be 21 and over, and must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or proof of a negative test within 72 hours before entry. General admission is $45, non-drinkers are $15 and VIP is $75. You can get your tickets at the festival website.

Do the Donut Dash to support children in local hospitals

Attendees will start at Land Park and then run, jog or walk 2 miles to Marie’s Donuts at 2950 Freeport Blvd where they will eat four doughnuts or six doughnut holes (or none if you’re not in the mood). Afterwards, participants must make their way back to the starting point.

Donut Dash tickets start at $20, depending on age and how many donuts you’re eating. All proceeds go to children’s hospital programs and activities, such as music therapy.
