10 Sacramento events this weekend: Juneteenth, Father’s Day lunch and a beer festival
Cooler temperatures are on the horizon, and Sacramento residents can take advantage of the outdoors this June weekend.
Skies are predicted to be mostly sunny, and highs aren’t expected to break the mid 70s Friday and Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
Juneteenth is Sunday and many Sacramento organizations are hosting celebratory events for the holiday. The 19th is also Father’s Day.
There are many celebrations planned for both holidays and other activities happening this weekend, June 17 to June 19.
Friday
Catch a comedy show
2100 Arden Way #225
Stand-up comedian and San Francisco native Scott Capurro is coming to Punch Line Sacramento this weekend, starting with a show Friday night.
With acting stints on Comedy Central and Star Wars, Capurro is “known for his confrontational and controversial yet thought-provoking comedy.” Tickets are free for now, with the purchase of two drinks, and you must be over 18 years of age.
Go swing dancing
2534 Industrial Blvd Suite 150
West Sacramento’s dance hall, Midtown Stomp, is holding a swing ball for experienced dancers and beginners. Bring some friends with you to learn some jazz-era dance moves before the main dance starts.
Friday classes for beginning swing dancers start at 8 p.m., and social dancing starts at 9 p.m. Tickets begin at $10.
Saturday
Support a local animal shelter at this beer fest
2127 Front St, Sacramento
Sacramento’s Front Street Animal Shelter is holding its third annual fundraiser to benefit the nonprofit from 1 to 4 p.m. this Saturday.
Front Street Brewfest is a block party that features beer tastings, food trucks, live music, games and a walk through the shelter to see all the pets up for adoption.
Tickets are $60, and for non drinkers, $10, and include admission to the nearby California Automobile Museum. This is a 21+ event, and pets are not allowed.
Learn how to make brie
4932 Shady Leaf Way
Cheese lovers can learn how to make the creamy brie through this class hosted by Scratch Made Life.
The class is from 10 a.m. to noon, and tickets are $50 per attendee. Space is limited to 10 people.
Sunday
Free car rides with dad at CAM
2200 Front Street
The California Automobile Museum is also joining in on Father’s Day festivities this year, offering free car rides on Sundays to paying visitors. Tickets to the museum are $10 for adults, and $9 for seniors ages 65 years and up.
Car rides last from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., but the museum on 2200 Front Street stays open until 5 p.m. Saturday. The museum features more than 150 different vintage and classic cars.
Enjoy a Father’s Day lunch

Estate Farms, in partnership with Brick & Bronze Events, is holding a Juneteenth Father’s Day lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with barbecue meal, cigars and music.
Donations are encouraged to enter the event. Each registrant will receive a barbecue meal, one drink and a cigar.
Gather at the Sacramento Juneteenth Festival
3800 Land Park Drive
The all-day festival, hosted by Sacramento Juneteenth Inc., is taking place at William Land Park from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The event features the “Juneteenth Mile” which is a one-mile run or walk that starts at 9 a.m. Festival goers can also participate in the Juneteenth Talent Show and watch live spoken word poetry and musical performances.
On-site health examinations will be available at the Health and Wellness Pavilion. Tickets are free.

Brickhouse Gallery and Art Complex is holding a Juneteenth event from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The local art gallery will be holding musical performances, and local vendors will also be selling food. All ages are welcome, and tickets are free.

Browse a farmer’s market

Start the week off by picking up fresh produce and other goods at a farmers market. The year-round market outside of Kaiser Permanente Point West Medical Offices takes places every Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Catch a rock concert
2708 J Street
American rock band with a southern twist, Southern Culture on the Skids, is performing at Harlow’s in downtown Sacramento. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $20, and you must be 21 years and older to enter.
