Sacramento weather this weekend is expected to reach dangerously high temperatures, with forecasts showing a high of 101 degrees on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service advised residents in a tweet to drink plenty of water, especially when outdoors; find shade when possible and to keep your pets cool.

There are many activities, some of which are indoor, planned for the weekend of July 15 to 17, ranging from California State Fair activities and concerts to musicals and a pub crawl.

Watch a concert at the state fair

Cal Expo: 1600 Exposition Boulveard

The California State Fair is back after two years of pandemic-related cancellations. On Friday, American singer and music icon Chaka Khan will be performing at the Golden 1 Stage at Cal Expo at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person.

The fair will be in town until the end of the month. It runs from July 15 to July 31, according to the state fair website.

Catch an indie concert

Memorial Auditorium: 1515 J St

American indie rock band, The Shins, is making a stop in Sacramento. The group is touring this year as a part of its “21 Birthday Tour” for its debut studio album “Oh, Inverted World,” which became “one of the most unlikely hit records of the 2000s,” according to FLOOD Magazine. Tickets are available online, starting at $33, and the show begins at 8 p.m.

Embark on a downtown pub crawl

Support local businesses with Do The Crawl’s 80s-gamer-themed “Arcade Pub Crawl.” Dressing up in accordance with the theme is encouraged but not required, according to the Eventbrite. Check-in begins at 4 p.m. at the crawl’s first location, Pete’s Restaurant and Bar. Tickets are $12 per person, and participants must be 21 years of age or older.

Make sustainable art in Old Sacramento

Sacramento’s creative art center, Atrium 916, is inviting the public to make their own art pieces in historic Old Sacramento from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to its website. The local nonprofit’s staff will be helping kids make clay magnets or paint a canvas. This workshop coincides with the center’s weekly eco-friendly art market, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Single moms: Hiking venture

Single moms are invited to bond over a picnic lunch and hike at Folsom Lake in an event hosted by California nonprofit, Single Mom Strong Inc. The group will convene at the Empowerment Center in Citrus Heights at 10:30 a.m., where parents can check in their kids for childcare. Tickets are $4 per mom and $4 per child. Bringing a water bottle is encouraged, and lunch is provided with the outing, according to the Eventbrite.

Watch a Shakespeare-based Broadway show

UC Davis Health Pavilion: 1419 H Street

Broadway Sacramento is bringing the Tony-winning musical comedy, “Kiss Me, Kate” to the stage this week, with performances that began Wednesday. The musical is an adaptation of the Shakespeare comedy, “Taming of the Shrew,” according to Broadway Sacramento website. Sunday’s show begins at 3 p.m., and tickets begin at $50 depending on seat section.
