No shock: Sacramento’s growing, 4-day Aftershock Festival sets new attendance record

Was it an Aftershock? Or a whole new quake?

Last weekend’s Aftershock Festival, the 10th edition of Sacramento’s biggest annual hard rock and metal event, broke its attendance record once again, organizers said Wednesday.

About 160,000 fans gathered for the four-day event at Discovery Park, event producer Danny Wimmer Presents said in a news release. That’s up from the previous high of 145,000 in 2021, which also marked the first year the event expanded from three to four days.

The growing Aftershock Festival, which started as a single-day fest in 2012, expanded to two days in 2013 and to three days in 2019, before being called off in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Slipknot, Kiss, My Chemical Romance and Muse were this year’s Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday headliners, respectively.

Visit Sacramento reported that last year’s event pulled in about $26 million to the local economy, and Aftershock organizers estimated this year’s impact, with a bigger crowd, at $30 million.

Danny Wimmer Presents said organizers will announce details on Aftershock 2023, including dates and ticket info, “soon.”
