6 things to do in Sacramento this weekend: Halloween fun, Dia de los Muertos, more
Halloween weekend is here, and if you didn’t already know, Sacramento is one of the top places to be for the spooky holiday.
It also ranked No. 1 in the Wallethub study for the city with the best Halloween weather forecast. From Friday to Monday, according to the National Weather Service, you can expect high temperatures in the 70s. Plan to bring a jacket in the evenings, as the lows are forecasted in the 40s and 50s.
Here’s what’s in store in the Sacramento area this weekend, Oct. 28 to Oct. 30.
13th Annual El Panteón de Sacramento
5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday
The Latino Center of Art and Culture, 2700 Front St., Sacramento
The Latino Center of Art and Culture presents its 13th annual El Panteón de Sacramento, in honor of the Day of the Dead. For the weekend, the center will honor traditions of the holiday by recreating a candlelit Mexican cemetery and chapel, and setting up traditional memorials to remember those that have passed.
This includes 40 community altars with one dedicated to those lost during the pandemic. There will also be traditional food, beverages, vendors and performances from dance groups, such as Flores de Handord and Ballet de Santa Helena.
The event is free.
Halloween Harlots: A Spooky Drag Show
7:30 p.m., Friday
Drake’s the Barn, 985 Riverfront St., West Sacramento
This Friday, Drake’s the Barn is hosting a drag show with a Halloween twist.
You’ll find appearances by Julian Moonlightt, Malaysia Claremont, Raine and more.
The event is free and will feature music and drink specials. Costumes are encouraged.
Drake’s the Barn will be hosting more Halloween-themed events throughout the weekend. On Saturday, there’s a Hocus Pocus Kids Bash. Tickets are sold online. And on Sunday, there will be a free live performance by The Sugar Pushers.
Halloween Festival
1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday
Southgate Plaza, 4242 Florin Rd., Sacramento
Families can celebrate Halloween early at the free Halloween Festival in Southgate Plaza. There will be a live DJ, face painting, games and Halloween treat bags for the kids — while supplies last.

Crawl-o-Ween
4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday
Republic Bar & Grill, 908 15th St., Sacramento
Sacramento is hosting its biggest costume bar crawl, with the first stop at Republic Bar and Grill. There will be multiple participating locations, including Bungalow, according to Sac Bar Crawl’s Instagram.
Wear your best costume because there’s $500 in prizes and cash for the costume contest.
This is a 21 and over event, and tickets start at $25 on Eventbrite.
Dia de los Muertos Festival
1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday
Marketplace 99, 9134 E Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove
Market 99 is hosting its annual Dia de los Muertos Festival on Sunday. The event is free and features games, face painting, bounce houses, live music and a raffle.
The festival will also showcase a live dance performance from Nostalgias de Mexico.
You need to pre-register on Eventbrite to attend and be entered into the raffle.
Fallin’ into Fun Market
12 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday
Marketplace at Birdcage, 5975 Birdcage Centre Lane, Citrus Heights
If you’re not one to celebrate Halloween, there’s a fall-themed market in Citrus Heights. You’ll find food trucks, a beer garden, live music and carnival games.
