Music legends, local comedy and college rivalry fuel Sacramento’s weekend lineup

Whether you’ve been powering through the week or daydreaming about Saturday, consider this your sign to start making plans.
The Sacramento Bee has compiled a list of events happening throughout the weekend, with some starting as early as Thursday evening. But first, here’s how to dress for it.
The National Weather Service office in Sacramento forecasts a 100% chance of rain Thursday, with 1 to 2 inches expected. South winds could reach 13 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 33 mph. The high will be 63 degrees.
Rain is likely to continue into Thursday night, mainly before 10 p.m. Expect a mostly cloudy evening with lows near 51 and southeast winds between 3 and 7 mph. There’s a 60% chance of rain Thursday night, with up to a half-inch of new precipitation possible.
Friday should be drier, with just a 30% chance of showers, mainly before 10 a.m. The rest of the day looks partly sunny with a high near 61 and light northwest winds around 6 mph. Friday night will be partly cloudy with lows around 48.
Saturday is shaping up to be the best day to get out. The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high near 65. Saturday night will be mostly cloudy, with a low near 51.
Sunday will be mostly cloudy, with on-and-off rain likely during the day and night. Highs will reach 61, with lows around 50.
Now that you’re weather-ready, here’s what’s happening around Sacramento starting Thursday:
KRS-One at Harlows
Hip-hop legend KRS-One will perform at Harlow’s, 2708 J St., at 9 p.m. Thursday. Doors open at 8 p.m.
An acronym for “Knowledge Reigning Supreme Over Nearly Everyone,” KRS-One rose out of the Bronx in 1985 with Boogie Down Productions, a pioneering group in the early days of hip-hop. He gained recognition for calling out the exploitation of the genre while championing peace, love and unity.
His best-known tracks include “The Bridge Is Over,” “Criminal Minded,” “Sound of da Police” and “My Philosophy.”
Jesse McCartney at Channel 24
American pop singer Jesse McCartney will perform at Channel 24, 1800 24th St., in Sacramento at 8 p.m. Friday. Doors open at 7 p.m.
The concert celebrates his fifth EP, Weightless, released in September.
McCartney rose to fame in the late 1990s and 2000s with hits like “Beautiful Soul,” “Leavin’” and “How Do You Sleep?” He became a pop radio mainstay and teen favorite known for his smooth vocals and chart-topping hooks.
The Isley Brothers at Hard Rock Casino
Legendary R&B group The Isley Brothers will perform at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, 3317 Forty Mile Road in Wheatland, at 8 p.m. Friday.
Formed in the late 1950s, the Isley Brothers have built a decades-long legacy of soul, funk and slow jams that helped define multiple eras of American music.
Known for hits like “It’s Your Thing,” “Between the Sheets,” “Who’s That Lady,” “Summer Breeze” and “Voyage to Atlantis,” the group continues to draw fans with a catalog of timeless classics.
Comedian Tahir Moore at Laughs Unlimited
Comedian Tahir Moore will perform back-to-back stand-up sets at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Laughs Unlimited Comedy Club, 1207 Front St., in Old Sacramento.
Moore is known for his role as Fast Mike on HBO’s “Insecure” and as a writer and on-air personality with All Def Digital, including the YouTube series “The Drop.”
Sacramento State Men’s Basketball at UC Davis
Following their first loss in the Mike Bibby era, the Sacramento State Hornets men’s basketball team looks to rebound from their 92-87 Tuesday loss at home versus UC Santa Barbara when they pay a visit to UC Davis in the basketball version of the Causeway Classic.
The game against the Aggies begins at 6 p.m. Friday. Ticket prices range from $5 to $35. Tickets sold at the door will have a $3 upcharge.
Sacramento State Football vs. Idaho
Sacramento State’s football team will host Idaho at 6 p.m. Saturday at Hornet Stadium in the final home game of the season.
The Hornets bring a 6-4 overall record and a 4-2 Big Sky Conference mark into the matchup. Idaho enters at 4-6, with a 2-4 conference record.
Sac State’s up-tempo “go-go” offense will be on display as the team looks to close its home slate on a high note.
Tickets for children age 3 to 12 are $17, adult tickets range between $27 and $47.
Punk Rock Flea Market
The Punk Rock Flea Market is a part of Flower Fist Art Market, offering original art, vintage clothing, jewelry and music from local vendors.
The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at 1819 E St. Admission is free and open to all.

Kyle Larson’s victory parade in Elk Grove celebrates the NASCAR driver’s second NASCAR Cup Series championship with a parade and victory rally at noon Friday at the Old Elk Grove Main Plaza. The event is free.
The 59th National Mother Lode Exhibit highlights over 95 pieces of art beginning 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday. It continues from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The event is free and located at Mills Station Arts and Cultural Center, 10191 Mills Station Road in Rancho Cordova.
Claude Monet immersive experience at 31 15th St. in West Sacramento features the artist’s most compelling works in a 360-degree display. Tickets begin at $18.90 for kids age 4 to 12 and $30.90 for everyone 13 and older. Senior citizens 65 and older and student tickets for those ages 13 to 26 are $25.90. There is a $4 processing fee when you book online.
Recuerdos Ilustrados celebrates Día de los Muertos journeying through life, love and death through contemporary altars and artwork by artists Álvaro D. Márquez, Stephanie Mercado and Daniel Villa. General admission tickets are $10, children between age 6 to 17, students, seniors and military tickets are $8 and members and children up to 5 are free. The event is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
“Ojo” is an exhibit by artist, curator and a former museum director Julio César Morales who grew up along the United States and Mexico border between San Diego and Tijuana. His art explores his lived experiences through a variety of media — including video, prints, watercolors, sculpture and photography. The free event is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday to Sunday at Manetti Shrem Museum, 254 Old Davis Road in Davis.
Princesses and Superheroes at the Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink invites families and their little ones to dress in their favorite character, get their face painted and skate with heroes and characters such as Elsa, Anna, Spider-Man and the Incredible Hulk. The skate session is from noon to 2 p.m. General admission tickets are $18, children are $8.
Fire Breathing in the Wild is a live performance featuring poetry, music and more hosted by poet Natachi Mez at the Black Box Theater, 1075 West Capitol Ave., in West Sacramento. Tickets start at $30.
Sacramento State men’s basketball plays a home game against the Presbyterian Blue Hose, a Division I school in Clinton, South Carolina. The game starts at 1 p.m. Sunday. Tickets start at $32.
