He’s been to six 49ers Super Bowls. Why this one is different for ‘Banjo Man’
When the San Francisco 49ers take on the Kansas City Chiefs for the Lombardi Trophy in Florida this Sunday, “Banjo Man” will be there.
Stacy Samuels, aka Banjo Man, will be wearing his familiar Super Niner costume to the game after the San Francisco 49ers organization provided him a complimentary ticket. It’s the first 49ers Super Bowl he’s attended for free.
The Bay Area native has attended over 370 games — including 10 Super Bowls — since 1983. Samuels has attended six Super Bowl appearances by the 49ers, and this is his 11th Super Bowl overall. He’s been able to bring his banjo to four.
He won’t find out until Saturday if he can bring the banjo into the stadium.
Samuels plans to fly to Miami on Wednesday, and will join pep rallies for the team in South Beach after he arrives.
If you run into Banjo Man in South Beach, Samuels accepts tips in exchange for a selfie. He claims if he didn’t request them he’d have to turn his back on many fans. The practice can be lucrative — a happy fan kicked him a $100 bill during the divisional round win over the Minnesota Vikings.
His prediction for Super Bowl Sunday? 49-28 49ers.
