Rangers search for missing hiker in Glacier National Park

May 6-Anthony Pollio, a 33-year-old man from Florida, headed out to hike a popular trail in Glacier National Park on Sunday. He hasn't been heard from since.

Park officials announced Tuesday night that search efforts were underway to find Pollio, who was reported missing on Monday afternoon. His last known message was sent around 8:20 p.m. on Sunday. According to the news release, Pollio communicated plans to hike to the Mount Brown Fire Lookout.

AllTrails clocks the hike as a 10-mile round-trip trek, with over 4,000 feet of elevation gain. It's a steep out-and-back trail that takes hikers to a fire lookout built in the 1920s. The hike is mostly switchbacks in heavily wooded areas before reaching the top of the ridge where the lookout is situated. A review of the trail from the winter described many downed trees in the area.

Rangers are now looking in the Mount Brown and Snyder areas, as well as nearby trail corridors. The Sperry Trail is currently closed as a result. Flathead County Search and Rescue and additional aerial resources are working with the park to assist search efforts.

Pollio is a 5-foot-11 white male who weighs about 180 pounds. He has short brown hair and brown eyes and may be wearing jeans, boots and a blue or grey jacket. He is thought to be carrying a black backpack. Anyone who has additional information should call the park tip line at 406-888-7077.
