Foster Cat Who 'Helped Heal' Disabled Kitten Sibling Says Bittersweet Goodbye Before Moving to Forever Home

Many animals tend to care for those they feel need help and support. Some dogs and cats will instinctively watch over small children, someone with physical challenges, or smaller fur babies they consider more vulnerable. This sense of compassion is often seen in therapy animals who serve in hospitals, schools, and assisted-living facilities.

Jenny the striped foster cat immediately went into caretaker mode for her kitty sibling, Lieutenant Dan, whose back legs were paralyzed. The loving feline stuck by the little kitten's side and helped her thrive before preparing for her new family.

Why does this just never get any easier? Saying goodbye to fosters is always so painful. This one stings a little more because I worry about Lieutenant Dan. In just an hour, Jenny and Shrimp Boat head off to their new home. Together. Although I am so thankful that they will be adopted together, as Jenny and Shrimp Boat are very close, I can't help but be sad for Lieutenant Dan. But here's what we all need to remember… Jenny helped Lt. Dan through such a hard time and I'm so thankful for that. The fact is, they have grown apart since and Jenny and Shrimp Boat have grown together. This is the right move. Also, Lieutenant Dan isn't big enough or ready to go anywhere. Her siblings are. I'm going to miss them so much. #catsoftiktok#cat#kitten#cats#kitty

Metamorphosis - Danilo Stankovic

The TikTok from @soccercatmom told the beautiful story of the special bond between these two sweet foster cats.

"Lieutenant Dan was so scared when we got her," the online text explained as the black-and-white kitten lay curled up in a ball. "Thankfully, it wasn't too long before her sister, Jenny, took her under her wing."

Clips showed Jenny cuddling and caressing her little sister as she watched over her, which helped the disabled kitty come out of her shell.

"There was an overnight change in Lieutenant Dan," the story continued as the two feline siblings snuggled. "She felt safe. It was so cute to watch her run to Jenny each morning. I truly believe Jenny helped heal Lieutenant Dan."

Jenny Was Adopted by Forever Family

As Lieutenant Dan gained confidence and strength, she became more independent. Jenny realized she fulfilled her role in helping her younger sibling and gave her space to grow. Though they didn't spend as much time together, their solid bond was unbreakable.

The older cat was recently adopted and was heading to a new home with a fellow foster named Shrimp Boat. Their foster mom shared that while she's "sad" for Lt. Dan, she knows Jenny is ready to move on.

"Jenny helped Lt. Dan through such a hard time and I'm so thankful for that," the caption read. "The fact is, they have grown apart since, and Jenny and Shrimp Boat have grown together. This is the right move. Also, Lieutenant Dan isn't big enough or ready to go anywhere. Her siblings are."

Jenny's selflessness and love are a beautiful example of the healing animals can bring to each other.
