Kelly Reilly Just Answered the ‘Dutton Ranch’ and ‘Marshals’ Crossover Question
Ever since Paramount announced that Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) would be getting their own separate spinoff shows, Yellowstone fans were anxiously waiting to see if there would be a crossover between Dutton Ranch—Beth’s show—and Marshals—Kayce’s show. And now that Dutton Ranch has premiered, it looks like we finally have some insight! Below, we share everything you need to know about a potential Dutton Ranch and Marshals crossover, including how Reilly herself feels about the idea.
What is ‘Marshals?’
Marshals (originally called Y: Marshals) is Kayce Dutton’s spinoff show. It follows Kayce after he decides to join the U.S. Marshals. It was the first Yellowstone spinoff to be released, in March 2026.
“I would say it’s actually kind of fun,” Grimes told Entertainment Weekly earlier this year. “There was nothing really fun about Kayce’s arc in the original show. He was just always having a pretty rough time. There was just constantly something going wrong, and he was no stranger to pain. But in this show, you get to see a bit of a lighter side—but not too light! It’s not fluffy or anything.”
“Kayce feels like a brother in a weird way,” he added. “I was really surprised by how quickly my soul and my mind wanted to dive back into that. Who would’ve thought it would be for this long, you know? But I’m still really enjoying the ride.”
What is ‘Dutton Ranch?’
Dutton Ranch is Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler’s (Cole Hauser) new show. In it, the two lovebirds uproot their lives from Montana to Texas in the hopes of starting over. The first two episodes of the show were released today, and it came after years of anticipation and waiting from fans and the cast.
“We’ve lived with these characters. It doesn’t mean we know everything about them, but there was a handing over the reins to us, to a certain extent, which lends us to find our own voice and opinion about them and where they are now,” Reilly told People magazine earlier this year. “So we feel a responsibility to honor them and bring them forward.”
“Taylor Sheridan is one of the best writers in this country right now, and we are his characters,” she continued. “He’s always in our minds as we’re making this, and they are big boots to fill. It’s because of him that we’re here.”
Will ‘Dutton Ranch’ cross over with ‘Marshals’?
Since Beth and Kayce are brother and sister, a potential crossover between the two shows would make total sense, but Reilly says the idea hasn’t really been discussed.
“I’m so proud of Luke, and we love him so much, and I miss him,” Reilly told People. “I wish we had a crossover. Maybe we will in the future.”
That mirrors what Marshals and Dutton Ranch director Greg Yaitanestold Collider earlier this year.
“We talked about that a lot because each wanted to be on the other show. I feel like Kayce should go to Dutton Ranch. That feels like something that I would lose my shit over as a fan. That would be pretty cool. I just don’t know, in the world of what Marshals is, if Beth coming in would fit into that quite as well,” the director said. “Kayce would just naturally fold into Dutton Ranch because there’s a tonal similarity to the original Yellowstone. A lot of the people involved with Dutton Ranch really felt like they were making Yellowstone Season 6. Marshals is much more genre and guns-forward and those kinds of cool things.”
Because of that, it’s safe to say that at least for now, there won’t be a Dutton Ranch and Marshals crossover, even though fans desperately want one.
