2 more Trader Joe's are opening in San Diego County
Trader Joe’s is coming to Clairemont. It is also opening another store in Encinitas, the company announced Thursday.
The company shared these general locations in an email but did not answer questions about addresses or target opening dates. However, a state license application for the sale of alcohol lists an address at Clairemont Town Square.
A Trader Joe’s addition at this shopping center would be key in the remaking of that mall, whose owners have been rethinking merchants as they redevelop the center. Burlington, a clothing store, is under construction, with two stores being built in a space that was once a larger Burlington. That mall has one large grocer, a Vons.
Trader Joe’s has been on the wish list of Clairemont residents for decades. A campaign to bring the store to Clairemont dates to at least 2012, the San Diego Reader reported.
For now, people in this neighborhood who want their Unexpected Cheddar, Dill-icious Chopped Salad Kit and tote bags have to get to Pacific Beach, La Jolla or Mission Valley, neighborhoods near Clairemont.
Encinitas already has one Trader Joe’s, at 115 N El Camino Real.
The two new stores in San Diego County will bring the Trader Joe’s total store count here to 20.
