59 Years Ago Today: Iconic American Singer Released a Future No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 Hit
Friday marks 59 years since the biggest music star of the '50s released another hit song that would top the Billboard Hot 100.
The great Elvis Presley had emerged as the next hotshot in the music industry in the mid-'50s. It began with "I Forgot to Remember to Forget" and "Heartbreak Hotel", a pair of future No. 1 hits released in Aug. 1955 and Jan. 1956, respectively.
Presley's rise to another stratosphere continued with the releases of other future hits in "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You" (May 1956), "Don't Be Cruel" (July 1956), "Love Me Tender" (Sept. 1956) and "All Shook Up" (Jan. 1957).
During a defining two-year stretch in his music career, Presley recorded "(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear" in Jan. 1957 at Hollywood's Radio Recorders. The song was used for his musical film, Loving You, also starring Lizabeth Scott and Wendell Corey.
That future No. 1 hit was released on June 11, 1957. The song reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States on July 8.
