What Happens When You Oil Your Dog's Scalp? Pit Bull Mom's Viral Routine Has the Answer

There is a pit bullgetting her scalp oiled right now. Her tongue is out and her eyes are soft, maybe rolling back in her head. She has never been more relaxed in her entire life.

The TikTok from @reignstormpit shows this pit bull mama doing what she does best: taking care of her dog in the most thoroughly thoughtful way possible. The caption is simple: "Oiling My Dogs Scalp "

The video is ASMR in the purest sense. Gentle hands making soft circular motions working through the scalp. In a calm, spa-like environment that makes you want to put your phone down and relax immediately. The dog settles in completely. And then the tongue comes out.

That tongue is the whole video. It says: this is the best thing that's ever happened to me. It says: I'm at peace. It says: my mama takes exceptionally good care of me and I know it.

The comments understood the vibe exactly:

"The edges did it!!!! I'm moving in "

"My dog sent this to me "

"I love the tongue sounds from her comfort level"

"She is loving every second of this"

One viewer captured the moment perfectly, noting how the cuteness kept building the longer the video went: "So loved and loving "

So loved and loving. That is this entire video in four words.

Beyond how peaceful and perfect it looks, there is a real question worth answering: is oiling your dog's scalp actually good for them?

Is Oiling Your Dog's Scalp Actually Good for Them?

Yes. And here is what the research says.

According to Naturo & Orgo, natural dog hair oils can help soothe dry skin, reduce itching, add shine and support overall canine coat health. Unlike many traditional grooming products that contain alcohol or synthetic preservatives, plant-based oils are gentle, safe and packed with nutrients.

"Regular use can lead to shinier, softer fur and reduce excessive shedding," the source notes.

Each of the most popular options serve a different and specific purpose. Coconut oil is rich in fatty acids and has antibacterial and antifungal properties, making it ideal for dry and itchy skin. Jojoba oil closely mimics the skin's natural oils and absorbs quickly without leaving any greasy residue. Argan oil contains Vitamin E and antioxidants that add shine and strengthen brittle fur. Almond oil, high in Vitamins A and E, softens and conditions the dog's coat.

How often should you do it? Naturo & Orgo recommends oiling the scalp once or twice per week for dogs with dry or flaky skin and once every one to two weeks for general shine and coat maintenance.

Dogs that have dry or flaky skin, senior dogs with thinning coats and breeds with long or curly hair will benefit the most. Even short-haired pups can reap the benefit from occasional treatments to maintain healthy skin.

A few important precautions to know: tea tree oil can be toxic in high concentrations so always use dog-formulated products. Do a patch test before applying all over. A little oil goes a long way. And avoid applying near the eyes, nose or mouth.

This pit bull's tongue said yes before the research ever proved it.

Looks like they were both right.
