This is part of a weekly feature in Home & Garden, highlighting ways residents can save water.

▪  Drink tap water, not bottled.

According to industry estimates, it takes 1.5 gallons to manufacture a single plastic water bottle (not counting its contents). Save that water (and energy) by drinking tap water. Use a filter pitcher (such as Brita or Camelbak), if desired, to improve taste. More potential savings: Keep that water in the refrigerator. That way, it’s cold when you want it – and you don’t have to run the tap while waiting for cold water.
