California State Fair

Where: Cal Expo, 1600 Exposition Blvd., Sacramento

When: July 10-July 26; 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday-Sunday

Admission: $12; seniors (age 62 and up), $10; youths (ages 5-12), $8; children ages 4 and younger admitted free; parking, $10

Visit the UC master gardeners at the fair’s Farm for advice on growing just about anything. Check out the new water-wise gardens as well as chefs’ demonstrations at the outdoor kitchen stage. The Farm also shows how to grow more food with less water and space.

Brewers and bakers tour

Where: Historic City Cemetery, 1000 Broadway, Sacramento

When: 10 a.m. July 11

Admission: Free

This guided tour of the cemetery and its famous gardens focuses on early Sacramento’s love of all things yeasty and the cemetery residents who made this town a beer mecca (with great bread, too).

Sacramento Antique Faire

Where: Under the freeway at X and 21st streets, Sacramento

When: 6:30 a.m.-3 p.m. July 12

Admission: $3; youths age 16 and under admitted free; no pets
