Water-wise tip: Even Fido can save water
Every member of the family can pitch in and save water, including your pets. Here are some suggestions from Pacific Gas & Electric: Wash your dog outside in a water-filled big bin, tub or bucket. (Don’t let the hose water run while washing and be sure to use a shut-off nozzle.) Then, repurpose the wash water on plants. (Go easy on the soap or use biodegradable shampoo.) Or try a “dry” shampoo that you brush into your dog’s fur, no water necessary.
Reuse water from your pet’s bowl to irrigate plants, too. Keep those water bowls away from dusty areas outdoors so they need to be changed less often.
Got fish? When changing tank water, use it outdoors on plants; it’s full of nutrients as well as moisture.
