Pre-slit foam tubing is easy to slip on pipes to insulate them from freezing in winter. But that foam insulation also provides a water-saving bonus: Hot water in those pipes will warm up faster. That means it will take less time for hot water to reach the faucet or shower head. Potentially, you’ll save 2 gallons for every minute you don’t run the hot water, waiting for it to warm up.
