When: Weekly curbside pick-up through Jan. 31

Admission: Covered by monthly city utitlity fee

Details: City of Sacramento residential yard waste customers can place Christmas trees and other holiday greenery on the curb as part of leaf season.

▪ West Sacramento tree recycling

Where: Yolo County Landfill, 44090 County Road 28H

When: 6:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday

Admission: Free drop-off

Details: West Sacramento residents can recycle Christmas trees in one of three ways: Dropping it off at the landfill, cutting it into small enough sections to fit inside the waste cart, or bundling 3-foot sections and placing them next to the waste cart on scheduled service day. Where: Sacramento Recycling and Transfer Station, 8491 Fruitridge Road, Sacramento

When: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, through Jan. 31

Admission: Free

Details: Accepting trees without any ornaments, tinsel, lights, stand and nails. Trees will be mulched and kept out of the landfill. (916) 875-5555, holidayrecycling.com.

Where: Water Efficient Landscape Demonstration Garden, Fair Oaks Horticulture Center, 11549 Fair Oaks Blvd., Fair Oaks

When: Daylight hours

Admission: Free

Details: See red and golden trunks, twigs, berries and branches, as well as evergreen shrubs and trees that in other seasons provide background and structure. See drainage techniques, such as rain gardens and permeable pavement. (916) 876-5338, ucanr.edu

▪ Nature’s Clean-up

Where: Effie Yeaw Nature Center, 2850 San Lorenzo Way, Carmichael

When: 1:30 p.m. Sunday

Admission: Free, $5 per car entry to park

▪ California State Home & Garden Show

Where: Sacramento Convention Center, 1400 J St., Sacramento

When: Noon-6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. next Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 4
