This is part of a weekly feature in Home & Garden, highlighting ways residents can save water.

▪  Grow a beard – or a mustache.

OK, this conservation tip isn’t for everyone, but shaving less means saving more. You’ll see the results posted on a digital billboard next to Cal Expo and Interstate 80. They’re the winners of the “Show Us Your Drought Face” contest, sponsored by the Regional Water Authority and several local water agencies. The five winners (four beards and one very long mustache) represent a collective water savings of more than 18,400 gallons. They are: Mikey Boyd of Fair Oaks, Ray Sandavol of Citrus Heights, Dan Melanson of Sacramento, Landon Gillespie of Granite Bay, and (with a phenomenal mustache) Sean Raiger of Sacramento.
