Owners of pit bulls or pit bull mix dogs can get free spay or neutering for their pooches if they live in one of three zip code areas.

The Sacramento Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is using a grant from PetSmart Charities to fund the 200 spay and neuter surgeries. To qualify, owners of the dogs must reside in zip codes 95624, 95670 or 95827.

The zip codes are located in Elk Grove or Rancho Cordova.

Call the SPCA at (916) 504-2825 to schedule an appointment for the surgery or come out to Elk Grove Regional Park on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to sign up in person. In addition to sign-ups, the SPCA will be giving away free pet food at the event next to the Rhoads Schoolhouse at the park, 9950 Elk Grove-Florin Road.

Proof of residence in one of the zip codes is required. Surgeries must be completed by May 15.

Call The Bee’s Bill Lindelof, (916) 321-1079.
