Restaurant News & Reviews

These 16 restaurants opened in the Sacramento area in October. Here’s what they serve

Pumpkins, ghouls and a Major League Soccer team aren’t all that October brought the Sacramento area.

More than a dozen new restaurants joined the local dining scene in the last month, from Woodland to El Dorado Hills. With options such as French, Oaxacan and Cantonese cuisine, there’s a healthy representation of the area’s ethnic diversity, while five additions to downtown Sacramento are emblematic of a larger trend.

New restaurants in downtown Sacramento

  • Flatstick Pub: Located at 630 K St., #3. An indoor miniature golf course with a 40-tap beer bar and Tex-Mex kitchen, Flatstick opened in Downtown Commons on Oct. 20.
  • Insomnia Cookies: Located at 414 K St. #120. The cookie chain with late-night delivery opened in DoCo last month as well.

  • KoJa Kitchen: Located at 732 K St. This Korean-Japanese fast-casual restaurant’s signature item is a burger-esque protein between garlic rice buns. The upstairs restaurant is open, but the downstairs bar remains under construction while KoJa waits on its Alcoholic Beverage Control license.
  • Pete’s 7: Located at 828 J St. Pete’s Restaurant & Brewhouse, which has nine other locations in the Sacramento suburbs, opened a slimmed-down, counter service version at the beginning of the month.
  • Polanco Cantina: Located at 414 K St., #240. Another DoCo restaurant, Polanco Cantina is a project by San Rafael-based Moana Restaurant Group, which also owns Piatti in the Pavilions Shopping Center.

Food spots in the Sacramento suburbs

  • Brissa & Co.: Located at 409 Natoma St. in Folsom. Brissa Heredia, whose family also owns Carmelita’s Mexican Restaurant in Fair Oaks and Roseville, will host her panaderia’s grand opening on Dia De Los Muertos (Nov. 2) after selling pan dulce all month.
  • Brickyard Counter & Bar: Located at 4364 Town Center Blvd., #128, El Dorado Hills. The new taproom pairs local craft beers with burgers, barbecue and live music Thursday and Saturday evenings. Its sister restaurant, Brickyard Restaurant & Bar, opened in Roseville in 2017.

  • Burritos El Posotino: Located at 157 Iron Point Road, Folsom. This taqueria has a self-serve salsa bar and an outdoor patio facing the rest of the Folsom shopping center.

  • Crepeland: Located at 540 Main St., Woodland. Morocco natives and Davis residents Othman and Miriam Moutaib opened their French-style creperie in mid-October, the Woodland Daily Democrat reported. Othman previously managed Crepeville as well as El Toro Bravo and Burgers & Brew in Davis.

  • Crudo: Located at 210 Washington St. in Auburn. Specialties at the modern Asian fusion restaurant include the smoked mushroom dashi and the okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake) with pork belly and braised octopus.

  • Thai Paradise EDH: At 4361 Town Center Blvd., #110 in El Dorado Hills. Alex and Jarunee Fleming, who also own Thai Paradise in Folsom, bought the El Dorado Hills Town Center restaurant formerly known as Chantara Thai Cuisine.

  • Well Season: Opened at 1753 Research Park Drive, Davis. The dim sum restaurant with live seafood tanks and a menu rich in Cantonese dishes replaced an Applebee’s near Interstate 80.

  • Zen Ramen & Sushi: Located at 7119 Elk Grove Blvd., #125 in Elk Grove. Zen Ramen & Sushi serves eight types of Japanese curry in addition to the soups and rolls advertised in its name.
