Restaurant inspection: More than 1,600 pest droppings found in Sacramento Chinese restaurant
Sometimes restaurants fail health inspections because of an easily correctable minor slip-up. This wasn’t one of those, records show.
A Sacramento County Environmental Management Division inspector found an estimated 1,661 pest droppings throughout Shanghai Cuisine during an inspection Wednesday, according to an inspection report. That included approximately 200 droppings on the table next to the four-range burner, 500 on the floor in the back prep and storage area and 700 on shelves and the ground in the middle prep area.
The restaurant at 2721 Broadway, which moved from 7235 Franklin Blvd. #1 last year, received three additional major violations in addition to the infestation. An employee touched raw ground chicken with their bare hands then proceeded to touch a cooked chicken breast, with no hand-washing in between.
Hot and sour soup and fried rice out by a microwave were measured between 72 and 84 degrees Fahrenheit, while eggs, pork, chicken and shrimp in a grill prep cooler that had been turned off for two hours were between 55 and 74 degrees. All perishables are required to be stored at less than 45 degrees or more than 135 degrees.
The kitchen hand sink also had a container of food in it and the adjacent paper towel dispenser was empty, according to the inspector’s report.
Shanghai Cuisine failed a follow-up inspection Thursday for vermin/animal contamination as well, though a full report was not available as of Friday morning.
The Carl’s Jr. at 8150 Sheldon Rd. in Elk Grove also failed inspection Thursday for vermin/animal contamination and had a major hot/cold holding violation as well, but no report was available as of Friday.
