Sacramento’s first Shake Shack will open at 11 a.m. Thursday for to-go orders in midtown’s Ice Blocks development after a year’s wait, a company spokeswoman confirmed to The Bee.

The New York-based fast food chain famous for its crinkle-cut fries and “concretes” will sell a few area-specific takes on the latter out of 1710 R St., Suite 190, including the “Shack-cramento Crumble” (vanilla custard, salted caramel sauce, cookie crumbs and chocolate toffee).

“We are so excited to be finally joining the Sacramento community,” chief development officer Andrew McCaughan said in a news release. “While it took us a while to get here, we are looking forward to bringing Shake Shack to Ice Blocks the safest way possible.”

Shake Shack has just five other Northern California locations, all in the Bay Area. Another location is in the works at Westfield Galleria in Roseville, the Sacramento Business Journal reported in October, though the company has yet to acknowledge it on its website.

Ice Blocks developer Michael Heller first announced he secured Shake Shack as a tenant in June 2019, with an anticipated opening date of later that year or early 2020.

The 3,500-square-foot store will be open for takeout from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. All staff will be required to undergo health checks at the start of each shift and wear masks and gloves at all times., according to the release.

Shake Shack made headlines earlier this week after New York City police officers erroneously accused restaurant staff of poisoning them. The restaurant group helmed by Danny Meyer also earned backlash after receiving $10 million in the first round of Paycheck Protection Program loans in April; though Shake Shack later returned the money, it couldn’t then be redistributed to the small businesses for which it was intended.
