de Vere’s Irish Pub in Sacramento temporarily closed after employee gets coronavirus

A mainstay of Sacramento’s bar scene, de Vere’s Irish Pub, is temporarily closed after an employee tested positive for the coronavirus.

The bar and restaurant had been closed Monday and Tuesday and will stay closed until noon Thursday so staff can continue a “deep clean,” de Vere’s wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday evening.

“We know they contracted it outside of the pub and we are working closely and under the guidance of Sacramento County health officials,” the downtown pub said in its social media post.

The employee who tested positive for COVID-19 had not worked at the pub in six days, according to Tuesday’s Facebook post.

The L Street pub had switched to outdoor patio-only dining following California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s order last week, which required bars and indoor restaurant dining rooms to close for at least three weeks in Sacramento and numerous other counties due to elevated COVID-19 activity.

Positive tests have forced a number of Sacramento-area establishments to temporarily close since bars and restaurants were given the initial go-ahead to reopen for dine-in service last month.

Another recent victim to a pandemic setback, Marly and Moo in Old Folsom, announced Tuesday it’ll be closed for a few weeks after an employee caught the virus.
