Despite the pandemic, these 35 Sacramento-area restaurants have opened since September

The COVID-19 pandemic has permanently closed dozens of Sacramento-area restaurants. Replacements are already coming.

At least 35 new restaurants have opened in Sacramento, Yolo and Placer counties so far since September. All are open for takeout, some for patio seating only and others for indoor and outdoor dining.

This list will be updated as more restaurants open throughout the fall. For a list of restaurants that opened over the summer, click here.

  • 105 Noshery (105 Vernon St., Roseville): Randy Peters’ brick-walled New American restaurant transitions from breakfast food and an espresso bar to dinner and cocktails over the course of a day.

  • Aimee’s Boba Cafe (7238 Franklin Blvd., Sacramento): Fryers are a vital part of Aimee’s business, with crispy chicken, seafood and french fries all for sale to pair with bubble tea or Vietnamese coffee.

  • Babes (2417 J St., Sacramento): Pushkin’s owners Olga and Danny Turner’s newest project exclusively serves gluten-free doughnuts and plant-based ice cream.
  • Bobaology (24988 Blue Ravine Road, Suite 108, Folsom): Bobaology offers teas with 13 kinds of boba, plus snacks such as wings, gyoza and shrimp chips.
  • Brahma Bar & Grill (10239 Fair Oaks Blvd., Suite D, Fair Oaks): The New American restaurant and bar in Fair Oaks Village opened for outdoor dining on Sept. 15.
  • Cantina Laredo (1151 Galleria Blvd., Suite 1175, Roseville): Westfield Galleria at Roseville hosts this Mexico City-inspired chain’s first Northern California location.

  • Capital Soul BBQ & Grill (4581 Mack Rd., Sacramento): Matisse Gholar closed Slams BBQ to serve soul food staples like smoked ribs, chicken and hot links in Valley Shopping Center.
  • Claimstake On The Green (9425 Jackson Road, Sacramento): Rancho Cordova-based Claimstake Brewing’s first food foray is a cafe serving breakfast, lunch and of course beer at Cordova Golf Course.
  • Darling Aviary (712 K St., Sacramento): The Flamingo House’s sister restaurant and rooftop bar opened Oct. 2 above The Hardin apartment complex.
  • El Tapatio (2100 Grass Valley Highway, Auburn): Owner Efren Guitron immigrated from Jalisco in 1970 and went on to found more than 15 El Tapatios on the West Coast, including a location in Citrus Heights.

  • Falafel Corner (1121 Alhambra Blvd., Sacramento): Sajad Shakoor brought the Badmash Burger (two Halal patties, two cheeses, beef bacon, Thousand Island, mayonnaise and a house sauce) to East Sacramento with Falafel Corner’s ninth location.

  • Fire Wings (1700 15th St., Sacramento): Fire Wings’ 10th area location opened on the ground floor of 1430 Q, a new eight-story midtown apartment complex, in mid-September.
  • Fresh Wok Express (8136 Gerber Road, Sacramento): Even super combos (three entrees, one side) stay below $10 at this fast-casual Chinese restaurant off Power Inn Road.
  • Ginger Elizabeth Patisserie (2413 J St., Suite B, Sacramento): Ginger Elizabeth Hahn’s much-awaited midtown bakery opened to hour-long lines in early October.
  • Grub Thai (524 12th St., Sacramento): Alkali Flat’s new Thai restaurant jumped right into the Tower Bridge Dinner To Go with an avocado/papaya salad, panang chicken and pumpkin custard.
  • Halal Fried Chicken (3654 N. Freeway Blvd., Suite 325, Sacramento): It’s in the name, and it’s in buckets, next to waffles and on sandwiches at this fast-casual restaurant in Natomas’ Promenade shopping center.
  • Hot Off The Griddle (8800 Greenback Lane, Orangevale): Sean Jimenez and Jason Dass opened their second Hot Off The Griddle diner where Annie’s Breakfast and Steaks had been.
  • Kings Hawaiian BBQ (1299 Florin Road, Sacramento): This South Land Park restaurant’s menu includes Kalua pork, malasadas and a Spam locomoco.

  • Las Cabañas Mexican Grill & Taqueria (660 Auburn Folsom Rd., Suite 5, Auburn): Berkeley-based Las Cabañas’ second outpost sells the “Auburn Taco” (deep-fried shrimp, avocado, pico de gallo, cabbage and a house sauce).

  • Main Street Lounge (524 Main St., Suite 101, Woodland): This downtown cafe is the newest project for Toby Barajas and Rudy Peniche, who own Savory Cafe and Las Brasas Tacos & Salsas respectively on Woodland’s Main Street as well.

  • Nash & Proper (1023 K St., Sacramento): Hot chicken wizards Cecil Rhodes II and Jake Bombard opened their first brick-and-mortar restaurant after winning the Downtown Sacramento Partnership’s 2019 Calling All Dreamers competition.
  • No Moo Foods (1930 K St., Sacramento): This vegan pop-up sells plant-based burgers, bowls and brunch out of Mango’s.
  • Oki Sushi (5406 Crossings Drive, Rocklin): Some of this Japanese restaurant’s sushi takes its name from surrounding Placer County landmarks, like the Galleria Roll (deep-fried crab mix, asparagus and salmon, torched and topped with scallions and two sauces).
  • Pho MiMi (25004 Blue Ravine Road, Suite 121, Folsom): Briggs Ranch Plaza’s newest addition replaced another Vietnamese restaurant, Pho Tam.

  • Ramen 101 (1609 16th St., Sacramento and 8420 Elk Grove Florin Road, Suite 170, Elk Grove): This Dublin-based ramen shop with Hawaiian barbecue and rice bowls opened two Sacramento-area locations within a month after launching in Rocklin in February.
  • SacVille Hot Chicken (1630 J St., Sacramento): A Nashville-style hot chicken pop-up out of Goldfield Trading Post, SacVille is the fifth area concept for Carlos and Alma Vicenty. They also run Netillo’s Takos out of Goldfield, in Elk Grove and in Lodi as well as Las Islitas Mexican Seafood in Galt.
  • Shake Shack (1151 Galleria Blvd., Roseville): The New York-based burger chain opened its second area location in the Westfield Galleria food court on Sept. 21.
  • Skip’s Fish & Chicken Express (2330 Arden Way, Sacramento): The fifth Skip’s location offers delivery as well as take-home meal kits.
  • Slim & Husky’s Pizza Beeria (3413 Broadway, Sacramento): This is the fifth location and first west of Tennessee for the hip hop-themed pizzeria and cinnamon roll joint.
  • Tasty Gourmet (2880 Fifth St., Suite 125): Former Four Seasons Gourmet Chinese Restaurant owner Maggie Lo came out of retirement to open her new Cantonese restaurant in east Davis.

  • Thai Express (1132 Galleria Blvd., Suite 120, Roseville): It’s the first area restaurant for this Canada-based Thai food chain, which has more than 300 locations worldwide.

  • The McBoodery (25 Main St., Isleton): This Delta sandwich shop is known for its “zombies,” or housemade brioches with items like pesto, cream cheese, peppers, tomatoes and olives baked inside the roll.
  • World Famous Hotboys (1115 21st St., Sacramento): Co-founders Victor Ghaben and Berk Gibbs tested their 90s-themed hot chicken concept in midtown with an August pop-up before expanding from Oakland in September.

  • Zocalo (2739 E. Bidwell St., Folsom): The upscale Mexican restaurant’s fourth location replaces Romano’s Macaroni Grill in Broadstone Plaza shopping center.
