Dim sum, crawfish and pho: 11 new restaurants that opened around Sacramento in April
New restaurants opened from Davis to Rocklin across the Sacramento region in April 2021, spanning the culinary map from Korean fried chicken to Cali-Mex breakfast burritos.
These 11 new restaurants welcomed customers for the first time in the last month:
▪ Bennett’s American Cooking (2232 Fair Oaks Blvd., Sacramento): The UV shopping center’s newest restaurant is an extension of Bennett’s Kitchen Bar Market in Roseville, and has a similarly broad-reaching menu of salads, shareables and meat-based entrees.
▪ Firehouse Crawfish (8148 Delta Shores Cir., Sacramento): Delta Shores marks the third location for this shellfish-by-the-pound restaurant owned by Minnie Nguyen and Trinh Le, the couple behind Station 16 and Daikon Korean BBQ.
▪ Fukumi Ramen (5410 Sunrise Blvd., Suite 2, Citrus Heights): Fukumi, which first opened in Roseville in February 2020, prides itself on chicken and pork broths simmered for 72 hours.
▪ Kiki’s Chicken Place (9332 Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove): It’s the 11th Sacramento-area location for this local wings chain, which opened in December 2015 and also has two food trucks.
▪ Mast Coffee (2421 17th St., Sacramento): Mast co-founders Michael Sanchez and Stephen Mentze just opened their first cafe after selling coffee beans to local individual and wholesale clients since 2012.
▪ Ming Hui Dim Sum 2 (4940 Freeport Blvd., Sacramento): There’s dim sum at this South Land Park restaurant, yes, but more noodle and rice dishes, at least at opening.
▪ Pho Tasty (301 G St., Davis): Davis’ second Vietnamese restaurant carries several types of beef and chicken soups as well as clay pot dishes and banh mi.
▪ Star India Curry & Grill (1728 Broadway, Sacramento): Star India replaced Kathmandu Kitchen and kept the lunch buffet but introduced new entrees such as lal maans, a lamb curry native to the north Indian state Rajasthan.
▪ Taco Exxpress (4885 Granite Dr., Rocklin): This Cali-Mex drive-thru sells tacos, burritos, combo plates and all-day breakfast dishes, as at its sister locations in south Sacramento and Fairfield.
▪ Timmy Ginger’s Sandwich Shop (7451 Foothills Blvd., Roseville): Timmy Ginger’s is all about fresh ingredients and a wide selection of sliced meats, plus vegan sandwiches with fillings like jackfruit or hummus.
▪ Vons Chicken (807 Howe Ave., Sacramento): South Korea-based Vons, which opened its first area store in Roseville in December, sells fried or baked chicken as well as ramen and bibimbap.
