At least 23 new restaurants opened across the Sacramento region in October. If they had a unifying theme, it might be fusion.

From corned beef tacos at a Fair Oaks Irish pub to a Korean barbecue/hot pot destination in Elk Grove to paneer pizza out in Lincoln, new restaurants melded cuisines fluidly in the spirit of California cooking.

Don’t forget the new Cali-Mex restaurant and taproom in East Sacramento, chorizo cheeseburgers in Arden Arcade or beef pepperoni at a south Sacramento halal pizzeria.

88 Bao Bao (10824 Olson Drive, Suite D, Rancho Cordova): Founded in Dublin in 2018 (a Brentwood location also opened in June), this Chinese restaurant is known for steamed dumplings and buns.

Azayaka Japanese Fusion (8760 La Riviera Drive, Suite B, Sacramento): Look for niche dishes such as yakimono (grilled seafood), chawanmushi (savory egg custard) or the “refresh roll” (white fish, plum and cucumber inside, then white fish, shiso, ikura and wasabi on top).

Cerveceria at The Shack (5201 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento): Urban Roots and Bawk co-owners Rob Archie and Peter Hoey replaced longtime burger joint The Shack with their Cali-Mex beer bar and restaurant on Oct. 21.

CH Cafe & Grill (6215 Sunrise Blvd., Citrus Heights): Erica’s Cafe owner Vincent Garcia opened this wide-ranging diner where a Perko’s Cafe Grill once stood, the Sacramento Business Journal reported.

Dave’s Hot Chicken (2371 Iron Point Road, Folsom): Backed by celebrities such as Drake and Samuel L. Jackson, this halal hot chicken chain opened its second regional location on Oct. 27 after debuting in Arden Arcade in August. A Fair Oaks restaurant is also in the works.

Falafel Corner (13479 Bowman Road, Auburn): Sajad Shakoor’s redemption story continued with Falafel Corner’s eighth area restaurant, serving halal burgers, falafel and gyros like its sister concepts.

Firehouse Subs (7887 Madison Ave., Suite A, Citrus Heights): First-time franchisee Jose Quintero brought this Florida-based sandwich chain to Sunrise Village shopping center on Oct. 25.

Fred’s Burger (7411 W. Stockton Blvd., Suite 100, Sacramento): Restaurant industry veteran Fred Akbarpour and his team make all-American fast food near Cosumnes River College: burgers, fries and hot dogs split down the middle.

Gogi Korean BBQ & Hot Pot (9660 Bruceville Road, Elk Grove): All-you-can-eat feasts are the draw at Xu Ping Chen and Meixin Zhang’s new Elk Grove Commons restaurant, which opened Oct. 10 with more than 100 items on its menu.

House of Pizza (721 Sterling Parkway, Suite 600, Lincoln): Classic pizzas such as Hawaiian, barbecued chicken and mixed veggie fill the menu at this Placer County pizzeria, with sporadic Indian influences such as a paneer pie or housemade gulab jamun.

Kiki’s Chicken Place (7753 Roseville Road, Sacramento): This fried chicken emporium added its 19th location near Antelope, bringing never-frozen tenders, sandwiches and wings to customers.

Midtown Lounge (1111 24th Street, Suite 102, Sacramento): Cider House’s replacement opened Oct. 21 with a menu based around panini, such as the Poverty Ridge pesto (chicken, havarti and housemade sweet basil aioli) or the Boulevard Park BLT (bacon or vegan bacon, lettuce, tomato, mozzarella and mayonnaise).

Mr. Fries Man (8251 Bruceville Road, Suite 130, Sacramento): This Los Angeles County-based fry shop opened its first Northern California location on Oct. 1, bringing loaded spuds to Strawberry Creek shopping center.

Pho Momma (9555 Folsom Blvd., Suite A, Sacramento): A sleek Vietnamese restaurant in La Riviera, Pho Momma specializes in noodle soups but also has a wide selection of spring rolls and tea drinks.

Pitch & Fiddle (8525 Madison Ave., Suite 126, Fair Oaks): Pitch & Fiddle’s second location (the original is in La Riviera) carries a deep whiskey selection and eclectic pub grub such as corned beef tacos or chicken sandwiches with Guinness-marinated mushrooms.

QTea Boba (6385 Riverside Blvd., Sacramento): Greenhaven’s colorful new boba shop and cafe opened Oct. 22 with baked goods, Spam musubi, Laotian sausages and more.

Raw Superfood To-Go (8469 Elk Grove Blvd., Suite 5, Elk Grove): This Milpitas-based health food bar made Elk Grove its second foray in early October, greeting customers with açaí bowls, smoothies and lattes.

Seasons Coffee Roasters (2420 N St., Suite 105, Sacramento): Previously a subscription-only coffee roastery, Seasons opened its first brick-and-mortar cafe in the CLARA building on Oct. 30.

Seniore’s Pizza (8250 Calvine Road, Suite A, Sacramento): A popular late-night pizzeria concept, Seniore’s first location outside the Bay Area is also the brand’s first halal restaurant, a point of emphasis for franchisees Tariq, Belal and Zaid Eid.

Tim’s Kitchen (808 2nd St, Davis): Not to be confused with fellow Davis restaurant Tim’s Hawaiian BBQ, this Hong Kong-inspired cafe closed its original location in June but is back up where Our House once was, with a kitchen expansion project planned for 2023.

Toasted Rooster Cafe (1650 Fulton Ave., Sacramento): Arden Arcade added a homey breakfast-and-lunch spot in Toasted Rooster, which stands out for dishes such as Coyote Eggly breakfast tacos or a 50% beef, 50% chorizo house cheeseburger topped with a fried egg.

Town & Country Grill & Banquet (1407 Howe Ave., Sacramento): The sister concept to Haveli Grill & Banquet and Al Maida Pakistani & Indian Cuisine in Rancho Cordova, Town & Country is an all-American halal restaurant with a slightly Mexican bend, as seen in its chicken burger, spaghetti bolognese and camarones a la diabla.

World Traveler Coffee Roasters (1111 24th St., Suite 101, Sacramento): This local roastery opened its fourth area cafe, bringing housemade éclairs and exotic beans to customers in midtown Sacramento as well as its coffee shops in Roseville, Folsom and El Dorado Hills.
