Sacramento-area sushi restaurant closes after less than a year. Here’s what we know

Roseville sushi restaurant Maneki has closed after less than a year in business.

The restaurant, located at 1902 Taylor Road, opened its doors in December.

The restaurant was founded by the owners of Bay Boys Brewing in Tracy, and offered a handful of beers from the San Joaquin County craft brewery on tap.

Maneki offered classic sushi rolls as well as luxury items such as a $500 dish featuring wagyu beef and Alaskan sturgeon caviar wrapped in 24-karat gold leaf, The Sacramento Bee reported in December.

Maneki has a 3.9 star rating on Yelp, with reviewers Ashley C. calling the restaurant “a great experience” and Alex Y. describing it as a “gastronomic joyride.” However, Yelp user Annette H. called the food “overpriced.”

However, the restaurant has been closed since Oct. 20, property manager Timothy Taylor wrote in an email to The Bee on Tuesday.

Maneki co-owner Max Tolstoguzov told the Sacramento Business Journal that the restaurant shut its doors because it “was losing too much money” and “wasn’t getting foot traffic.

The restaurant’s owners did not return requests for comment.
