This pizzeria near downtown Sacramento is closing — but a new one is on its way

Anonimo’s pies combine New York and Neapolitan styles, but don’t adhere to any particular style. While the Alkali Flat pizzeria is closing, the co-owner will open a new concept, call ed Luccas, with the same signature crust and other Anonimo inspirations.

Anonimo Pizza’s days are numbered. A new concept plans to build on what was started.

The pizzeria at 400 12th St. will close by Oct. 15, co-owner Juanes Ramazzini told The Sacramento Bee. He’ll then open a new restaurant called Luccas, which will initially be called Luccas by Anonimo to help customers digest the transition.

Anonimo opened in February 2022 in Alkali Flat near downtown Sacramento, its “question mark” logo and intentionally vague branding designed to draw in curious diners. Its New York- and Neapolitan-style pies bore traditional toppings and off-the-wall ones including duck carnitas and steak with chimichurri.

Restaurant plans were upended, though, when co-owner Chris Jarosz died in a May 2023 car crash. Jarosz’s daughter inherited his business assets but moved to San Diego for school, Ramazzini said. She’s in the final stages of selling her share of Anonimo to Ramazzini.

Anonimo struggled without Jarosz, who owned Broderick Roadhouse as well as Bones Craft Kitchen in Davis, Ramazzini said. As such, he’s looking to move onto a fresh concept with an updated menu, while keeping Anonimo in the name to start.

“I’ve been working to keep his legacy alive, and want to keep it somehow connected to him,” Ramazzini said.

The crust Ramazzini originally developed for Anonimo will remain at Luccas, a name inspired by his Italian and his wife’s Spanish heritages. Detroit-style pizzas, available for a short time when Anonimo first opened, will be back on the menu as well as calzones.

Luccas will debut around Oct. 15 when Anonimo closes, marking two new restaurants for Ramazzini in a month. Bambina’s Pizza & Pasta, inspired by his daughter Isabella, began its soft opening Sept. 21 where Curry Up Now had been in midtown’s Ice Blocks development.

Bambina’s pizzas differ a bit from Luccas’ or Anonimo’s, said Ramazzini, the former chef and general manager at La Porta Restaurant & Bar in Arden Arcade. Customers can order a house style of dough inspired by Northern Italy, a thick Sicilian pizza or an oval-shaped pinsa to go with handmade pasta and truffle oil arancini. It converts to a late-night slice house from 10 p.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Luccas will be open from 3 to 9 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
