Sacramento is hosting CA’s 2025 Michelin Star ceremony. Where and when?
Sacramento is set to host a reveal of which California restaurants are receiving Michelin Stars.
In a news release on Monday, the prestigious fine dining guide announced it will be unveiling the 2025 edition of the Michelin Guide California in the state’s capital.
The ceremony is scheduled for the evening of June 25 at the SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center in downtown Sacramento, according to the release. Attendance at the event will be by invitation only.
“Sacramento is thrilled to welcome The Michelin Guide back to our city,” said Mike Testa, president and CEO of Visit Sacramento, in the news release.
Two restaurants in Sacramento currently have one Michelin star each: Localis, run by Placer County local Chris Barnum-Dann, and The Kitchen, owned and operated by the local Selland Hospitality Group.
Localis first earned its Michelin star in 2022, while The Kitchen has had one since 2019, according to previous Sacramento Bee reporting.
“We are looking forward to honoring California’s talented culinary community in the vibrant city of Sacramento,” said Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guides. “With an impressive gastronomy scene focused on locally grown and sourced food, Sacramento was the perfect place to celebrate the state’s growing talents.”
Restaurants can earn up to three Michelin Stars. According to the Michelin Guide, one star is given to restaurants that use “top quality ingredients” in their unique, consistently good dishes.
Two Michelin Stars indicate a restaurant’s chef has clearly put a piece of their personality in “expertly crafted...refined and inspired” dishes. A three-Michelin Star restaurant has “dishes...destined to become classics” where the chef is “at the peak of their profession,” according to the Michelin Guide.
Restaurants that have high-quality food at a decent price can also be acknowledged by the Michelin Guide with the Bib Gourmand award.
Four Sacramento-area restaurants were given a Bib Gourmand award in 2024: Frank Fat’s in downtown Sacramento, Canon in East Sacramento, Yue Huang Restaurant in Natomas, and Nixtaco in Roseville.
“As the host of the inaugural California Guide announcement in 2019, and home to our own amazing Michelin Starred restaurants, Sacramento knows firsthand the anticipation and magic that are synonymous with Michelin,” Testa said in the release. “We can’t wait to celebrate the Golden State’s honorees here in June.”
