Less than two weeks after the iconic downtown Sacramento diner closed its doors, Jim-Denny’s will soon be selling burgers, hot dogs and fries again — this time through a partnership with a popular local brewery.
It’ll do so at New Helvetia Brewing Co. in Land Park, Jim-Denny’s owner N’Gina Guyton announced Saturday morning in an Instagram video.
The partnership, dinner service only for now, will begin Friday, July 18. The following week, Jim-Denny’s will begin serving food from 5 p.m. to close Wednesday through Sunday, according to the post.
“Baby, we are back,” Guyton said in the video, which also featured New Helvetia founder David Gull. “Come buy burgers, hot dogs, fries, chili cheese fries and, of course, New Helvetia’s amazing beers.”
Guyton referred to the brewery at 18th Street and Broadway as Jim-Denny’s “new permanent home.”
Why did Jim-Denny’s close?
Guyton rebooted Jim-Denny’s, whose first run ended in a February 2020 closure after 85 years, in September 2023 with a menu featuring twists on classic American diner food.
Guyton in an Instagram post July 1 said the 816 12th St. location would close again, this time after the building’s landlord unexpectedly served her with an eviction notice.
The restaurateur said she was ordered by her landlord to vacate by the end of July and, as she wrote in the July 1 post, that the landlord “went back on his word” when he gave the notice in April. She pooled funds with investors in an effort to buy the building, but was unable to persuade him to sell, Guyton said.
Customers flocked to the spot the next day for an emotional send-off to Jim-Denny’s. Diners who turned up lauded Guyton, who also owned and operated South in Southside Park from its 2014 opening until its closure in 2022, for her passion and quality of the food.
