Longtime owners will no longer operate I Love Teriyaki 3 in midtown Sacramento by the end of this month.

The fast-casual teriyaki restaurant announced on July 3 that owners Daniel Takata and Jennifer Joo have sold the restaurant and will not operate it by next Thursday, July 31, according to a Facebook post from the business

The post described the restaurant as their life’s work and thanked longtime customers for their support during times of difficulty.

“As many of you may not know, Daniel faced a serious medical condition last year—and thankfully, he pulled through,” the operators wrote. “But after much reflection, we’ve decided it’s time to step back and hand the reins to someone who can continue the legacy of what we’ve built here together.”

Since 1998, the restaurant brought teriyaki plates, sushi rolls, tempura and noodles to midtown, with Takata and Joo taking over ownership in 2013. The couple also operated Takata-ya, a Japanese restaurant and bar in midtown, that shut down in May 2019.

“The event (closure) is imminent, stirring up mixed emotions,” the operators wrote in a Facebook post Thursday
