Health-focused chain Urban Plates sets opening date for new restaurant in Davis
Organic fast-casual restaurant chain Urban Plates is opening its second Sacramento-area restaurant less than a year after debuting in the region.
The eatery is expanding its capital region footprint across the causeway to Davis, launching as one of the first eateries in the new the Davis Collection, at 865 Russell Blvd., Suite 140, according to a news release from the chain. Urban Plates Davis is opening for business at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring the Davis Chamber of Commerce kicking off first-day festivities at 10:30 a.m., according to the news release.
The first 50 guests in line during the opening will receive a free entree and Urban Plates swag. Over the weekend leading up to the opening, Urban Plates will host charity preview events, with funds going toward the Yolo Food Bank, the company’s release said.
“’Since opening our first Sacramento-area location last fall, we’ve seen how much people value craveable food made from scratch and with quality ingredients,’” Joe O’Donnell, president of Urban Plates, said in the release. “’Everyone deserves to eat this good, and we’re excited to serve our new neighbors in Davis.’”
In December, the chain opened its first Sacramento restaurant at 2080 Fair Oaks Blvd. in the Campus Commons neighborhood. In less than a year, the eatery has garnered more than 1,400 Google reviews with an average rating of 4.8 stars.
Urban Plates was founded in 2011 by partners Saad Nadhir and John Zagara in the San Diego area, expanding to more than 20 locations throughout California. The Davis restaurant will be the chain’s 22nd eatery, according to the news release.
The chain’s wide menu includes a range of classic plates, salads, bowls, sandwiches and other from-scratch dishes that feature sustainable proteins. According to Urban Plates’ news release, it prides itself on responsibly sourcing many of its ingredients, including wild ahi tuna, grass-fed steak and cage-free chicken.
The Davis Collection has been slowly coming to life as more than a dozen new tenants open around the revitalized UC Davis-adjacent shopping complex. Eateries like Mendocino Farms, The Melt and 88 BaoBao have opened their doors in recent months, with various others slated to fill most of the development’s units.
Urban Plates’ Davis outpost will be open 11 a.m.-9:15 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m.-9:45 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
