Arden Arcade restaurant Vechos closes — and a new eatery is set to take over
An Arden Arcade restaurant serving classic American bites quietly closed its doors, and a new business is already moving in.
Vechos Eatery, 1600 Fulton Ave., shut down Friday after just over a year in business. Owner Kevin Ramos said he closed his restaurant as he was looking to pursue a new business venture.
“Obviously, the restaurant industry changes with the economy ... right now we’re just looking for a business that’s a little bit more profitable for us and our family,” Ramos said.
Vechos, named to reference the Spanish dining saying “buen provecho,” opened in the small Fulton Avenue building in August 2024. Its menu featured a range of American and fusion sandwiches, burgers, pizzas and more. Certain dishes, like the chilango pizza — featuring carnitas or carne asada, jalapeños, queso fresco and avocado — and the three tacos plate, pull inspiration from Mexican cuisine.
According to previous Bee reporting, Vechos had a restaurant and tap room location in Granite Bay that opened in 2022, but it closed the following year. Ramos did not share further details on what his upcoming venture would consist of.
“We had very loyal customers that truly supported us and we built a lot of great relationships,” he said. “(Vechos) was a good venture, it’s just time to do something different.”
While Ramos and his team cleaned their equipment out of the restaurant Monday afternoon, Nadia Daoud was beginning to plan her business’ move into the space.
Daoud’s food truck company, Bangin’ Bowls, will be opening its first Sacramento restaurant in the former Vechos restaurant. The Latin American fusion food business has a location on the UC Davis campus and various mobile eateries across the capital region, including its flagship bowls truck, a Mexican street taco truck and an ice cream and churro pop-up bar.
“We have five different concepts ... we wanted to bring all those concepts into this restaurant,” she said.
Daoud said she is hoping to get Bangin’ Bowls ready to open within the next three months and she thanked Ramos and his crew for their support with the transition process.
“(The Vechos team) have worked with us through this journey and they’ve been really nice and helpful,” she said. “Wishing them good luck anywhere they go.”
