Customers and Costco groupies brave fog for opening of 12th Sacramento-area store
By The Sacramento Bee
The deep blanket of fog covering the Sacramento Valley did little to deter Costco customers from lining up for the opening of the region’s 12th Costco store on Friday.
The new store is located at 5200 Baseline Road in Roseville, near the intersection with Fiddyment Road. The members-only chain already operates a store in the city at 6750 Stanford Ranch Road.
“You only get to open a new store like this one time,” said Roseville Mayor Krista Bernasconi, pointing to the impact that the store’s sales tax revenue will have on funding city services such as police, fire and roads.
The new store is expected to generate $3 million in tax revenue in its first year, with projections rising to $7 million as the area builds out, according to previous Bee reporting.
Hoka and Ugg footwear, Louis Vuitton products and specialty liquors were among the merchandise driving consumer interest on the first day.
Several customers dressed up in hot dog costumes out of appreciation of the company’s food court offerings.
The site includes a gas station, car wash and tire service center.
