Self-checkout stands arrive at Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op

The Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op in Newton Booth has launched a self-checkout in an effort to improve its customer experience, the grocery store announced on social media.

Known for its fresh and organic produce and food, the grocery store on 2820 R St is rolled out installation of self-checkout stands Monday. Self-checkout was announced in February.

“This new option is designed to provide added convenience during busy times, while our team continues to offer the friendly, personal service that makes the co-op special!” the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op wrote on social media.

The Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op has a long legacy in Sacramento, starting out as a food-buying club in 1972, according to its website. The club later open a storefront for bulk foods on 16th and P streets. A year later, the co-op established its board of directors and began hiring employees.

“We’ve come a long way from our buying club days,” it said on its website. “But we stay true to our cooperative roots with the multitude of discussions on product selection, member services, retail practices and ethical issues that take place every day in our business.”
