Adoption fees waived for adult dogs at Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento
Adoption fees for adult dogs will be waived at Front Street Animal Shelter as the facility faces overcrowding, according to a news release from the City of Sacramento.
Fees will be waived until Sunday, June 21 to encourage residents to adopt adult dogs ages six months and older and to make room for incoming strays. Front Street Animal Shelter, 2127 Front St., temporarily houses stray dogs and cats.
The facility estimates that it takes in multiple dogs a day. Andre Haverland, a shelter spokesperson wrote that with every adoption, it helps the facility “care for more animals in need.”
Residents can view dogs looking for forever homes on the shelter’s website. The site also includes a list and photos of those dogs whose adoption fees are waived. All available dogs have been neutered, spayed, microchipped and vaccinated.
Prospective dog parents can select a dog online or at the shelter. Those looking to adopt need to register in person to be placed on the shelter’s waitlist, the adoption website said. This allows the shelter to coordinate times for clients to meet with an “adoption counselor.” Appointments are not necessary to simply walk through the shelter, according to the city’s news release.
“We encourage anyone who has been considering adding a dog to their family to visit the shelter and meet the animals currently available for adoption,” Haverland wrote in the release.
Front Street Animal Shelter is open daily, Noon to 5 p.m., but will be closed Friday for the Juneteenth holiday.
